Have you heard all the buzz about February 22, 2022? Not only is the date 2-22-22, but it lands on a Tuesday. For that reason, it’s being called Twos Day. If you ask me, there’s no better excuse, I mean reason, to infuse some engaging Twos Day Activities into your ELA lessons.
Here are a variety of fun ideas you can incorporate into your classroom to make the day memorable and a day full of valuable lessons.

Twos Day Classroom Set Up
No need for anything extravagant, but setting up the stage to engage can get students excited for the day.
- Bring in #2 balloons or 22 helium balloons.
- Hang up streamers with little 2s hanging from them.
- Put up a Happy Twos Day poster on the front door or banner on the board.
Twos Day Theme Ideas
Kids love a good theme and this day will be the perfect excuse to have one.
- Twin Day: Students choose another student in the class to dress up similarly with.
- Wear Two: Students wear two of something (ex. 2 shirts, 2 bows, 2 wristbands, 2 watches, etc.)
Twos Day Snack Ideas
Kids get really excited about snacks, so here are a few fun snack ideas. (As always, make sure your students do not have an allergies to these foods.)
- Candy Ideas:
- Twix Candy Bars
- Nerds: Grape and Strawberries
- 22 M & Ms or Skittles
- Gum Ideas:
- Food Ideas:
- Oreo Cookies Sticks and Cream
- Pretzel Sticks and Cheese
- Cheese and Crackers
- Chips and Guacamole
- Chips and Salsa
- Pears (pairs … get it? 😆)
You can download some little snack tags to add to the treats.
Twos Day (Paired) Game Ideas
Infusing some brain break games or indoor recess games will make the day fun and memorable. Have students play any of the following games in pairs.
- Tic-Tac-Toe
- Checkers
- Dots and Boxes
- Rocks, Paper, Scissors
Read Aloud Picture Books
I don’t know about you, but I will use any excuse to share a read aloud with my upper elementary students. Twos Day is no exception. Here are two books that pair well with the theme. (No pun intended there, but it worked.)
- Tuesday by David Wiesner
- Two of Everything by Lily Toy Hong
Student Gift Ideas
- Twos Day bookmarks
- #2 pencils (add a cute label to go with it)
- Any of the snack options listed previous
Pairing Up Students
Since the theme for the day is 2, it is a great excuse to pair students up with a partner for different assignments.
A fun way to pair them up is by using index cards. Write items that have a matching pair (ex. peanut butter/jelly, ham/cheese, paper/pencil, bat/ball, etc.) Give each student one card. Once every student has a card, have them find their pair. This will be the student they will work with.
ELA Activities
As an upper elementary teacher, we know how important it is to tie the activities to standards, especially with state testing right around the corner. Below are some fun Twos Day ELA Activities that are standard based.
- Have students work with idioms. Choose ones that have a 2 or 22 theme included. (ex. Catch-22 or Two peas in a pod)
- Introduce students to the prefix bi-. Have them define different works that include the prefix in it. (ex. bicycle, biweekly, etc.)
- Challenge them to make a list of 22 nouns, 22 verbs, 22 adjectives, etc. This will help them review the parts of speech.
- Challenge your students to find synonyms for the number 2.
- Have them write about what they think life will be like when they are 22 years old.
- Set up a timer and have them read for 22 minutes. Students then reflect on what they read and write a quick summary.
Brain Break or Just for Fun Activities
- Have students participate on the “Not a 2” drawing challenge. Have them draw a large 2 on a paper and turn that 2 into something else in a drawing.
- Challenge them to see how many words they can come up with by using the letters in TWOS DAY. Want to make it more challenging? Give them just 2 minutes.
