Although it is definitely not necessary, it is a fun to present your students with a little something on Halloween to let them know you have thought about them. Of course, we all know they will be receiving a ton of candy on that day. If you want to give them a little something without loading them up with sugar, here is a list of thrifty non-candy Halloween gifts for students. They are sure to bring smiles and festive vibes into your students’ day without breaking the bank.

Pop Fidget Toys
We know that our students are going to be very antsy on Halloween and the day following. These Pop Fidget Toys are not only adorable, but they can help students get some of their energy out. The mini chains allow students to easily attach them to their book bags.
Drawstring Backpack
These drawstring backpacks are a clever and inexpensive option. Perfect for students to take home all of their goodies in, and they make great trick or treat bags too. Students can them use for their own personal use.
Glow Sticks
Glow sticks are always a favorite amongst kids. These have a variety of great uses. Students can use them as a “Flashlight” reading device on Halloween day. Incorporate them into a Glow Games Day classroom transformation. They are also a great gift to use as later on the day as they go trick or treating.
Play-Doh
A very thrifty gift that students of all ages love is Play-Doh. Great to give with a little “Happy Halloween” tag or place it in a Ziploc bag with pipe cleaners and googly eyes to create a “monster.”
Vinyl Stickers
Who doesn’t love vinyl stickers, right? They are great for water bottles, laptops, notebooks, folders, and more. Many teachers use these as incentives for their students because kids absolutely love them.
Halloween Bookmarks
As an ELA teacher, a very inexpensive yet usable gift I like to give my students are bookmarks. They are a great motivation to read and students really enjoy them. You can give students a colorful Halloween bookmark that is ready to use or offer them a bookmark they can color in. It’s a great activity for early finishers.
Experiences
As far as “gifts” are concerned, you can give your students an experience. One of the experiences I like to give my students on Halloween Day is a Halloween themed Book Tasting experience. First, I purchase a few plastic cauldrons. Then, I fill them with different books from our classroom library placing one genre of books inside each of cauldron. During the book tasting experience, students go around an experience a few pages from several books. I love to incorporate this in a dark room and with flashlights. Students love the extra added effect.
Of course, there are many other ELA Halloween Activities you can also include throughout the day to make it a memorable one for them.
Wishing you and your students a Happy Halloween filled with many fun memories!
